About 150 domestic and foreign scientists and scholars are gathering at an international seminar in the port city of Hai Phong to seek solutions to ensure the environmental and maritime security for a blue East Sea.

The two-day event focused on three major topics – environmental security of the East Sea under the judgment of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA), security of navigation and overflight in the East Sea under the PCA ruling, and initiatives and solution for a blue East Sea.

McManus (Rosenstiel School at the US’ Miami University), Dr. Masanori Muto (Mitsubishi Research Institute, Japan), Prof.Dr. Eric David (ULB, Belgium), Prof. Dr. Annette Juinio-Menez (Former Director, Marine Science Institute, University of the Philippines), Dr. Youna Lyons (Centre for International law, National University of Singapore), Dr. Duncan Currie (Director, Globelaw), Prof.Dr. Go Ito (Meiji University, Japan), Dr. Jean Vincent Brisset (Research Director at IRIS IRIS, France), Prof.Dr. Devinder Grewal (Indian Chair of Port management at the World Maritime University), Dr. Alberto A. Encomienda (Executive Director, balikBalangay Inc., Former Secretary-General of MOAC, Philippines), Prof.Dr. Rajesh Sharma (RMIT University, Australia), Ambassador Nguyen Quy Binh (Former Vice-chairman of Vietnam Governmental Committee of Boundaries), Prof.Dr. Nguyen Chu Hoi (VNU), Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vo Si Tuan (Director of Institute of Oceanography, Vietnam; Vice Chairman of IOC/WESTPAC), Dr. Tran Cong Truc (Former Chairman of Governmental Committee for National Boundaries), Assoc.Prof.D.Sc. Nguyen Thi Thanh Thuy (RMIT Vietnam University)…discussed a number of issues including lessons in managing a sea of peace and sustainability in Southeast Asia.
